Wintry Mix

Winter (January) 2012 - Holland

Have you ever noticed that the weather sometimes says it's going to be a "Wintry Mix" today? Well, that's almost every day in Holland. Especially in the Winter.

First photo of the lovely Clouseau, or Clousie as he's known to his closer friends.
Second photo is of Leiden. Usually I'm in Leiden for the street market, so I hardly see this view. Even in the summer, the canal is lined with cafe barges. It's hardly ever this deserted.

Christmas 2010 - Wassenaar

It was icy outside, the presents were wrapped, and the kitties were content.
What more could we ask for?

Getting Home

Winter 2010 - Train Ride

Getting home at the end of my first semester in Dublin was... and Adventure. Many people studying abroad had trouble getting back to America, but there I was, having just as much trouble getting back to Holland.
My flight out of Dublin was canceled due to a huge snowstorm in The Netherlands and they were projecting that the Dublin Airport would be shut the next day. So, I flew to London on a flight that was delayed due to snow in London, arrived at about 1:30am, took the Gatwick Express into London, then took a too expensive taxi to the Hotel I was supposed to stay in overnight. By that time it was 3:30, and I had to be in the station ready to catch the Euro Rail at 6:30. I took a nap. The Euro Rail took me through France and Belgium, where I transferred to a local train to The Netherlands. Finally, exhausted, but amazed at the sights outside my window I pulled out my camera.
Less than 24 hours after I left, and after traveling through five countries, (Ireland, The UK, France, Belgium, The Netherlands,) I was home. The next day, I got on a plane to Germany.

Oranjefest

This was when my camera was still set to "bulb" and overexposing stuff in daylight like a jerk.
But at night...

It was perfect for Oranjefest.

Suzanne's House

The following photos were taken in a family friend's house.
Her name is Suzanne but she and my mother call each other by spy nicknames.
She lives in Houston, Texas.
And her house is full of the most amazing stuff.

Suzanne let me run wild with my cameras in her house this summer, and I am super happy with the results. I don't want to do them all in a row though, so Suzanne's House will be popping up a lot.
These are Diana Mini photos, but I also have Holga and Digital photos too.

One of her two Corgis - Atticus

And her collection of crucifixes...

That's Suzanne's house. A small part of it !

My Village

Wassenaar is a village.
For some reason people think it's funny that I live in a village, but no - really, it's a village :)

Black and White Bronxville

It's been a while. My internship made it nearly impossible to post - as in, I was home for about 3 hours that I was not sleeping, and the internet on the campus of the theatre was slower than I can explain.
Then I got home and was so busy it took me two weeks to fully unpack. Course now I go to Edinburgh tomorrow to Fringe Festival it up, but c'est la vie.
BUT
The original point of the photoblog was to document my life in photographs - especially while in Europe for an entire year. So now that I'm back in Europe... I have some photo's from lovely old Bronxville to show you!

The last one is part of Marshall Field on the SLC campus.

Leaving Me in the USA

I am taking a short break from my digital Snow Day photos because today my mother flies back to Holland. I am still here in the USA for another six weeks, but I will be leaving Houston soon, though I really cannot wait to be back in Holland.

This is what I miss:

Both of these photos were taken in Leiden, which is only a short bus ride away from my village.
Six weeks!

One of My Many Homes

Being a Third Culture Kid, I have many homes:
Houston, where I am now and am originally from; Holland, where my family currently resides; Sarah Lawrence, where I have been at school the last two years; and soon to be Trinity College Dublin, where I will spend the year abroad. These are some photos of the town where I live in Holland, Wassenaar. Shot with my Diana Mini.
