Funny story - When I was trying to get this film out of my camera, something strange happened, and the film broke apart from the canister. So I sat in my closet, and rolled the whole thing up in the dark. These two were at the end of the roll, and got some light.

It's been a while. My internship made it nearly impossible to post - as in, I was home for about 3 hours that I was not sleeping, and the internet on the campus of the theatre was slower than I can explain.

Then I got home and was so busy it took me two weeks to fully unpack. Course now I go to Edinburgh tomorrow to Fringe Festival it up, but c'est la vie.

BUT

The original point of the photoblog was to document my life in photographs - especially while in Europe for an entire year. So now that I'm back in Europe... I have some photo's from lovely old Bronxville to show you!

The reason I was missing for a week was that I visited a friend in Chicago, and had little to no computer time. Now I am at the O'Neill Theatre Center, where I will be for the next five weeks. Yay!

Suzanne is one of my mother's friends. She is very eccentric, and very wonderful.

Suzanne likes to have art in her house from those around her. For instance, at the moment, she has multiple photos done by my mother, and a coloured pencil drawing of converse by me.

The first photo was taken the day before Easter at an indoor market on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, the second was taken late at night at Rockefeller Center this past winter, and the third in Wassenaar, (Holland,) on my walk to the shopping street this spring.

Governors Island

Governors Island is gorgeous.

Especially with all the art from the Festival all around.

Governors Island used to be a kind of Military base and the architecture reflects that. There are all these big stately buildings that look almost southern, surrounded by huge trees and streets. And directly over the trees is the New York City skyline. It's really a beautiful place.

The New Island Festival was an Arts festival that was held in New York on Governor's Island as a part of the events taking place in The Netherlands and New York City to celebrate the 400th year since Henry Hudson landed on Manhattan. One of the attractions was a performance by Boom Chicago, an Amsterdam based, American run theatre group that works similarly to Second City. I interned for Boom Chicago, so I headed out to see them, and had a wonderful time with my friend Emily exploring the festival.

We Are, Once Again, Doing Something New

Ok, clearly the plan to keep up the blog was not working. Why?

I think putting up so many photos at once was a bit of the problem.
So what now:
Since I stopped blogging as much I've become a film photographer. That's right. Film. Specifically a Lomography film/camera photographer. I have three film cameras at the moment, and hope to get a fourth soon. I have a Diana Mini with a Diana + Flash, a Holga, and a Polaroid (though that's not lomography..) and hope to get a Four Lens Action Sampler. Before I move on, let me say that I am in no way affiliated with Lomography.com, I'm just linking them because these are their products. I also don't mean to imply I buy from this website.
Right.
So lots of film photos, as well as digital. Another plan is to take down the number of photos to one or two a day, just cause if I put them all in one post, then it's a lot of waiting till the next batch of photos are taken for the next post. This also means there may be some re-posting of some previously posted photos every once in a while. Hopefully you can bear with me?
Also, with this post I go...shall we say.. Live?
So far I haven't advertised, as it were, on my facebook or anywhere else. Now, my friends, my photos are for all of you to see! I feel like especially since we will all be separate for over a year (or for you in Holland, have been separated for a while already,) it's a good way for you to see what I'm seeing or have seen.

Diana Mini Goes To NYC

My mother and I went into the city a ton while she was here.

I brought along Diana Mini.
One of the things we did was wander along the High Line at sunset.

Some of the photos are rather grainy, but I don't mind. That's what you get with film!
And next time, for sunsets, a higher ISO!

You can see so much of the city from there. Like this building:

The great thing about this camera is the way you can play with light.

I recently got myself a Diana Mini. Which is an adorable tiny film camera.

Then, it snowed (as it is now) and of course, I had to go have fun.

I was taking it set so that I took half frames, which turned out pretty fun

Something else fantastic you can do, is since you advance the film, you can layer images.

This Saturday it was supposed to snow again,

but it missed us (in NY) and dumped it all on the South.
As in, three feet of snow in Maryland. What?
Well this winter Holland was (and still is to some extent)
covered in an unusually large amount of snow.
To celebrate that:

This nature reserve is literally a two minute walk from my house.
From this direction, you can see nothing but trees and a field.

As I previously mentioned, we went to Munster over Christmas break.

Our main purpouse in going was to visit the Christmas Markets Germany is famous for :)
The main purpose of these markets (to me) is to eat wonderful German Christmas foods.
So you'll notice in a lot of these photos, people are holding something that they're in the process of eating. Yum!

Christmastime in (almost) Feburary

Right after I arrived in Holland (about a month and a half ago ...) It began to snow.

So I took some photographs. Naturally. This one is from my window.

Kato (my cat!) was not a big fan.

The next day, we planned on going to Germany. This is what we woke up to.

Beautiful, but the Dutch Transportation system could not handle it.
I must remind you it never snows in Holland. But look how much there is:

You can't even see the sidewalk!
Unfortunately, we had to wait a day to head to Germany.

Tomorrow I am leaving Holland to head back to NY.

I blame my being amiss about posting on my loving being in Holland too much to be at my computer. Do you believe me?

Home for the Holidays

After an entire day long delay getting to Germany because of the snow in Holland (photos soon to come) and then 9 hours of traveling (it should have only taken 3) we got to Munster! It was lovely and the food was great, (again pictures soon to come...) but now we are back home for Christmastime.

Speaking of home, one of the things I love about where I live is that I'm 10 min from the beach by car, or 20-30 by bike.

These photos are obviously from the summer, but I wanted to share them nonetheless :)

These are from the time my friends and I all went down to the beach to eat and watch the sun set.

While on the beach we had a good time being goofy

And watching the beautiful sunset

I'm off to Munster today to go to more Christmas Markets with my parents. If we can get out...there is about 8cm or 4in of snow on the ground where we are. Luckily all we have to do is get to the train station. Wish us luck!!

So I took some photographs

And played with some colours

Eventually it was time for us to go, so I took one more shot of their house

Lucky for us, the sun was setting as we drove home :)

This is the Ijsselmeer, a massive lake we had to cross to get there and back. Isn't it gorgeous?

Now In The Depths of Winter

I have some pictures from the brightest summer days. This is installment #1

We were in the North of Holland somewhere at my mother's friend's fantastic house, with a Beautiful garden :)

First of all, there were some great Sculptures on the way there

Then when we got there some food and drink

Then I began to bounce around their garden and take photographs!

I find it hard to believe that these two are even in the same garden

Once Apon a Spring Day

There was one day in April my friends and I sat outside on the lawn at our college for over five hours. Usually, none of us are the picture takers, but this time I decided to bring a camera along. My allusive friends were captured on camera!

For some reason the best photos were of these two, Mark and Monica.

This next one is probably my favourite. You can tell so much about them from this one shot:

I also got some great photos of the foliage in the spring

I feel like these pictures look like they could be either spring or fall, and that's what's so neat about them. It was a beautiful day.

The Majorelle Garden

Marrakech

Last spring break my family and I went to Marrakech, Morocco. On the first day, we had a guide show us some of the well known sites around the city, like these tombs:

The entire city is just so colourful

I couldn't resist taking a picture of this cat amongst the statues :)

Kroller Muller Museum

The summer before I went to college, my mother and I went together to the Kroller Muller Museum which is located in the Hoge Veluwe National Park in Otterlo, for anyone interested in going there.

The museum is in the middle of a park

And to get to the museum they have all these white bikes you can use.

Around the museum they have this fantastic sculpture garden:

The sculptures weren't the only pretty things in the park. So I added in the natural beauty around them!

I love the colour of this rock

These stairs literally lead into the sky. Apparently people used to be able to climb them, but when we were there a sign was up saying, "The Stairs are shut after an accident and are being evaluated for structural integrity" or something along those lines. Makes me wonder...

The next sculpture was really cool because from the side it looked like this:

But from the bottom...

It looked like this! Woah.

I don't exactly know what it is, but it's definitely cute!

Let's Go In Another Direction

I have all these photographs I wish I could share with the world, so here goes that.

The first ones are from a hilltop city thirty minutes outside of Nice, France. They're from I believe two years ago. Probably the first time I had a camera of my own to take pictures with.

It was a cloudy day but still absolutely beautiful.

A lot of the photographs I took involved plants or flowers contrasting with non-organic material.

On all the fountains there were these cute little fish signs saying whether or not the water was drinkable!

I love how you can see the lace through the glass.

There were so many beautiful iron gates with vines growing all over them.

I wonder if any light comes through this window?
